Regarding food accessibility, Kelly’s Kitchen will be heading up a Food Ambassador Program. The Food Ambassador Program is being created with a specific goal of increasing awareness of food pantry services, healthy cooking classes, community gardens, accessible cooking opportunities, state-level food policy updates, and statewide programming as it relates to food equity in all 56 states and territories.

Our goal is to create a network of grassroots advocates who can keep Kelly’s Kitchen informed of opportunities for allyship, support, and sharing of opportunities that fall in line with our mission of food equity, access, and accessibility for all. While some of the information and resources collected through the Food Ambassador Program will assist with the Food Security Network, these are two separate initiatives that both place focus on food justice, equity, and access!

What to know about the Food Ambassador Program?

You do not have to be affiliated with a Center for Independent Living (CIL), Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC), or any other organization to act as a Food Ambassador. We want to support and uplift community members providing grassroots advocacy and information on a state and community level.

Obligations and expectations of a Food Ambassador encompasses minimal requirements:

  • Checking and responding to emails
  • 1-2 hours per month researching opportunities in your state when it comes to access to food programs, gardens, classes, food policy news and updates, etc. in your state.
  • Providing updates (at least once a month on the 20th of the month) to Emily with Kelly’s Kitchen regarding opportunities for the upcoming month (for example, sending opportunities and programs for the month of April by March 20).
  • Attendance of Quarterly Zoom Meetings that will last 45 mins – 1 hour.

Do you have an interest in food access and equity? Are you passionate about connecting community members with state-wide resources and information? Are you looking to join a community of like-minded individuals who value these same goals? Then becoming a Food Ambassador with Kelly’s Kitchen may be the perfect fit for you!
