Summary of Job Duties:
The Senior Managing Director of the Indigenous Food and Agriculture Initiative (IFAI) is a member of the School of Law team. The Senior Managing Director will work closely with the IFAI Executive Director and other members of IFAI’s Executive leadership team and act as advisor and co-strategist in building the national work associated with IFAI. The Senior Managing Director is responsible for the daily administration of IFAI, including managing the effective delivery IFAI’s portfolio of projects and providing supervision and support to IFAI professional senior and junior staff. The Senior Managing Director will serve as co-principal investigator on IFAI grant projects and provide project management direction for IFAI’s portfolio of work, ensuring timely delivery of projects. Additionally, the position will be responsible for assisting the Executive Director in supporting IFAI’s funding portfolio by facilitating connections with potential support for IFAI work. The Director may represent IFAI at external partner meetings as well as School of Law functions, and may also collaborate with other colleagues on campus. The Senior Managing Director will also support IFAI through law, policy, and business-related research, writing, and outreach for the IFAI legal research center to develop additional strategies and solutions to empower Tribal governments, Native food businesses, and Native food producers in food and agriculture food system and business development.
This position reports to and is evaluated by the IFAI Executive Director and may require occasional interface with the School of Law Dean and faculty director of IFAI. This position involves frequent travel long distances by air or vehicle on behalf of IFAI for various events and requires representation of IFAI and the University of Arkansas in public and private settings at the executive level. While position may be up to 50% remote, regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job function of this job, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education
JD degree from an accredited Law School
At least six years of experience as an attorney
Barred in at least one Tribal, state, and/or federal court
At least six years experience working with federal Indian law and policy, and/or related field (attorney and non/attorney)
Experience managing and leading a diverse team of people (attorney or non-attorney)
At least three years experience working with Tribes focusing on policy development
Experience in delivery of projects funded by federal or private organizations
At least three years of progressive experience in public speaking with large audience, education, training, or technical assistance in agriculture or related policy field
Experience interfacing or working with American Indian, Alaska Native, or Native Hawaiian governments on policy, business, economic development, and/or legal issues
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree from an accredited institution in food, agriculture, administration, and/or policy
Prior work and experience supporting Tribal governments, Native American organizations, and/or Inter-Tribal organization
Experience working in food, agriculture, food safety, and/or other related areas.
Additional Information:
This position is renewable annually based on continued need for the position, availability of funding, and satisfactory job performance.
Salary Information:
$125,000 - $160,000
