Position Overview

The Programs Coordinator is a part-time, contracted position and supports Evanston Grows in advancing its mission by developing and managing educational and community-focused programs. This role requires a collaborative individual with a passion for gardening, education, and community outreach. Key Responsibilities

1. Program Development & Management

  • Implement and design educational initiatives such as gardening and nutrition programs, in partnership with EG partners, social service organizations, local schools, spring-break and summer camps, as well as EG Farm Stands.

  • Manage outreach programs, including workshops, garden gatherings, nutrition education sessions, and sustainable gardening activities.

  • Collaborate with partner organizations to deliver impactful programs tailored to community needs and interests.

  • Recruit and support instructors.

  • Plans for, utilizes and supervises volunteers for programing events.

  • Secure location and supplies for programming.

  • Use EG Strategic Plan, visitor input and our mission to guide program priorities.

  • Solicit and track community input regarding desired programs.

2. Evaluation and Reporting

  • Report to the Associate Director.

  • Track and measure program outcomes to assess impact and identify areas for improvement.

  • Prepare monthly reports detailing program performance for stakeholders and funders.

3. Administrative Support

  • Work with organizational leadership to ensure alignment of programs with Evanston Grows' strategic goals.

  • Assist Grant Writer in preparing grant proposals and reports to secure and sustain program funding.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in program coordination, community outreach, education, or related fields.

  • At least two years of programming leadership experience.

  • Knowledge of urban gardening, sustainable agriculture, or nutrition education is preferred.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with an ability to collaborate across diverse groups

  • Proven ability to supervise others (instructors as well as volunteers).

  • A commitment to Evanston Grows' mission and values.

Hours & Compensation

This part-time role offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact in the Evanston community while working with a passionate team dedicated to food justice and sustainability.

Hybrid, 12 hours per week at $27/hour, day, evening and weekend hours-varies according to program needs.

Projected Hiring Timeline
