Kelly Timmons
Founder and Executive Director, Kelly’s Kitchen
“Food brings people together. It’s more than just sustenance—it’s a community-building resource. Kelly’s Kitchen is dedicated to helping people access the food they need and communities create systems that guarantee food security and accessibility for everyone. Our programs provide cooking supplies and teach skills to people with disabilities, work with people to improve access to nutritional and enjoyable meals, and educate on the intersection between disability justice and food justice.
Our Food Security Network, which Ford supports, is a searchable database of every type of food assistance available in communities around the country. We identified 11 different types of food sources in societies, from community centers and urban agriculture projects to food banks and food pantries. So far, 31,188 organizations are being served through the Food Security Network. On our website, you can search by zip code to find which services are available in your community.
We’ve been working in regions that have been affected by last year’s hurricanes, especially in North Carolina, and we have been organizing events in Southern California to help in the aftermath of the wildfires. Food security and food justice are complex issues, but the benefits go far beyond basic physical health—and by working toward these goals, we can create stronger, more vibrant, joyful communities.”
