Ingredients

  • 4 whole cinnamon sticks

  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

  • 8 whole allspice berries

  • orange peel from 1 orange

  • lemon peel from 1 lemon

  • 1/2 cup maple syrup

  • 6 cups apple cider or freshly squeezed apple juice

  • apple slices and orange twists, to serve

Kitchen Supplies

  • 1/8 teaspoon measuring spoon

  • 1/2 cup measuring cup

  • 1 cup measuring cup

  • knife

  • cutting board

  • peeler to peel lemons and oranges

  • medium size saucepan

  • timer

  • large spoon for stirring

  • ladle or large spoon to serve the hot mulled cider when it is ready to drink

  • Mugs or glass cups to serve the hot mulled cider in (no plastic - it will melt from the heat!)

Directions

  1. Place a medium saucepan on the stovetop (or your induction cook top) with it OFF.

  2. Add 4 whole cinnamon sticks to the saucepan.

  3. Measure 1/8 teaspoon of ground cloves and add to the saucepan.

  4. Add 8 whole allspice berries to the saucepan.

  5. Peel one orange.

    1. Place the orange slices to the side.

    2. Place the orange peel in the saucepan.

  6. Peel one lemon.

    1. Place the lemon to the side.

    2. Place the lemon peel in the saucepan.

  7. Measure 1/2 cup of maple syrup and pour in the saucepan.

  8. Measure 6 cups of apple cider of fresh squeezed apple juice (your choice!) and pur into the saucepan.

  9. Turn the stovetop burner on to medium high heat (level 8 on the induction cook top) and bring to ALMOST a boil. This means when you start to see tiny bubble in the pan.

  10. Once the mixture starts to get to a boil, turn the heat down to low (1-2 on the induction cook top).

  11. Set a timer for 30 minutes and let the mixture simmer for 30 minutes.

  12. Cut apple slices to serve with the mulled cider. Optional.

  13. When the timer goes off, your hot mulled cider is ready to serve!

  14. Remove from the hot burner onto an unused burner and turn off your stovetop (if you are using an induction cook top, all you have to do is turn the induction cook top off - you can keep the saucepan sitting there).

  15. CAREFULLY ladle the hot mulled cider into mugs and put apple slices and/or orange in the mug if you want to.
